"If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Psalm 11:3

This study really did touch me big time. It was something I had never considered until the day we studied the verse at Sunday School. I thank God because I do not know what would have happened to me if I had not given my life to him completely.

To those of us who are wondering what foundations are? I will give you a brief description of what I am going on about. Foundations are just those things something or someone rests on, depends on or stands on. It is that solid thing in one's life that gives or offers you stability. In the construction industry it is that underground structure that supports a building. To a Christian it is Jesus.

From the study I learnt that one needs to be wise and decide on the type of foundation they need. This is because there are various dangers associated with choosing a wrong foundations.

We all have a past and that is our foundation. Our ancestors might have been involved in ritual killings, assassinations, idolatry, and other atrocities. We need to get rid of all these faulty and shaky foundations. As children of God we need to make sure that our foundations are good and clean without anything that brings shame. We need to break the chain of bad foundations and begin to lay down good ones for ourselves and for the future generations.

Take a look at the children of Israel in Psalm 106:34-43(New King James Version)

34 They did not destroy the peoples,
Concerning whom the LORD had commanded them,
35 But they mingled with the Gentiles
And learned their works;
36 They served their idols,
Which became a snare to them.
37 They even sacrificed their sons
And their daughters to demons,
38 And shed innocent blood,
The blood of their sons and daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus they were defiled by their own works,
And played the harlot by their own deeds.

40 Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against His people,
So that He abhorred His own inheritance.
41 And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them,
And they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43 Many times He delivered them;
But they rebelled in their counsel,
And were brought low for their iniquity.

This is why they had to cry out to the Lord for him to restore them and save them from dying. That is why they asked, what will happen if the foundations of the righteous are destroyed? They were seeking for solutions from God. They were wise and knew that once the foundations are faulty there is no stability. Everyone is free to do the same and I believe that the Lord our God is merciful and just. He is able to forgive and provide those good foundations to anyone who is willing. Just in the same way he provided for the children of Israel.

You want a good foundation, a solid foundation, a sure foundation, a firm foundation, a holy foundation, a wise foundation, a divine foundation, a strong and everlasting foundation, talk to Jesus Christ.
