According to one dictionary I looked at, marriage is a social contract between two individuals. This is what unites their lives legally, emotionally and economically. It is what gives legitimacy to sexual relations. For a good marriage only two people are required. A man and a woman. Marriage is a covenant and in a covenant everything becomes ours, your people become our people, your car becomes our car and your money becomes our money. In a contract people keep the things they come with e.g. the car I came with is mine not ours.
Marriage brings about a new identity. If one is not ready to change who they are then they are not ready for marriage. In a covenant marriage, you give your spouse your number one best. Whatever it is that may compete with your wife or husband has to go. Your wife or husband is not supposed to beg or ask for your time.
You should always be there for them no matter what. When you get married you automatically lose or give up the right to own things on your own because your spouse automatically gets access to all your things. In marriage your body belongs to another, not for abuse but to love. In a contract one protects their rights and limits their responsibilities. If you are not ready to part with one thing or the other you are definately not ready for marrige with the person you are marrying.
You can not make any decisions without contacting your spouse. You can not just say oops!!! I saw the bike in the sale and I bought it, without discussing buying a bike with your hubby or wife before.
Marriage never fails but it is the people in the marriage who fail to make their marriage work for their good. We need to understand God's institute of marriage. The purpose of marriage is found in God. One needs to go to the maker to know what his intentions were when they created the marriage union. If you want to know the purpose of a BMW X6 you go to the manufacturer of the vehicle to know it's purpose.
Your marriage is the strength of your faith, the strength of your children, the strength of your church and the strength of your society.
